M ontreal-headquartered prodco Attraction has inked a deal with Éditions AdA to adapt the horror fantasy book series Les Contes interdits (Forbidden Tales) into a television series.
Attraction will produce a series of English-language productions for the local and international markets under the agreement which was announced during the ongoing Fantasia International Film Festival, according to a press release.
The Les Contes interdits series includes more than 40 titles written by 15 authors. The titles are adapted from popular tales such as Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Rapunzel, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Wizard of Oz.
Attraction’s VP and executive producer, Richard Jean-Baptiste, and VP of scripted English content, Ian Whitehead, said in a statement that “AdA’s vision in adapting traditional folk tales is brilliant. Bringing this vision to the screen was a no-brainer for us, as it was for AdA.”
Added François Doucet, president, Groupe AdA,: “Seeing our authors’ works brought to the screen is a dream come true. Simon Rousseau, the series’ creator, is also delighted with the agreement.”
Internationally, the French rights to the collection have been sold in France to Groupe Trédaniel and Éditions Contre-Dires. English rights are represented by industry veteran Michael A. Levine, chairman of Westwood Creative Artists in Toronto.
