CBC has launched a YouTube channel for its podcasts, with plans to add video podcasts in the coming months.
CBC Podcasts launched on Thursday (July 20), and includes investigative series such as Someone Knows Something and Uncover; the daily news series Front Burner; arts and entertainment podcast Commotion with Elamin Abdelmahmoud; and Let’s Not Be Kidding and Run, Hide, Repeat, according to a news release.
The podcast channel will also feature visual components, such as in-studio recordings and video trailers. The pubcaster said the new channel is meant to build off the success of its Q with Tom Power YouTube channel, which has accrued more than 125 million views as of press time.
The new channel aligns with the Canadian launch of podcasts in the YouTube Music app, which allows users to listen to podcasts in the background (with the phone screen locked) and download content for offline listening.
Barbara Williams, EVP, CBC, said in a statement that “the new audio streaming partnership will expand the reach of our world-class slate of original podcasts, helping us connect with new audiences in Canada and around the globe.”
CBC’s roster of podcasts includes more than 40 series in genres such as true crime, comedy, human interest and audio fiction.
