Isuma Distribution International has hired screen sector consultant Daniel Northway-Frank (pictured) as its director of distribution.
According to a LinkedIn post published Friday (June 30) announcing the role, which commenced in May, Northway-Frank has oversight over Isuma’s film launches, sales and impact campaigns, and is also tasked with supporting the company’s long-term growth and partnerships.
Isuma Distribution International is based in Montreal and is a division of the prodco and artist collective Isuma, headquartered in Igloolik, Nunavut. Northway-Frank reports to co-founder Zacharias Kunuk and is based in Toronto.
Northway-Frank has more than 20 years of experience in the arts sector, including more than 10 years at imagineNATIVE, where he worked as the industry director for the annual festival’s year-long imagineNATIVE Institute. He most recently served as distributor of impact at the Toronto-headquartered Fae Pictures.
He is the founder of Northway-Frank Consulting, which provides consultation services on financing, marketing and impact campaigns for screen projects. His recent work includes the Northern tour of Nyla Innuksuk’s horror Slash/Back and the marketing, festival and promotion strategy for the animated short film anthology How to Lose Everything, inspired by Cree writer Christa Couture’s memoir.
Isuma Distribution International’s slate includes Cree filmmaker Tasha Hubbard’s documentary Singing Back the Buffalo, which went into production last June.
“I’m looking forward to expanding Isuma Distribution International’s national presence and further building international partnerships for more Indigenous content to sustainably reach and impact more communities and screens,” said Northway-Frank in a statement to Playback Daily, adding that he also plans “to increase discoverability” for its catalogue of current and upcoming releases.
