NFB hires former Vice producer to Quebec & Atlantic Studio

Liz Cowie is based in Halifax and will serve as a producer at the NFB studio.

The National Film Board of Canada has hired Liz Cowie as a producer at its Quebec & Atlantic Studio.

Executive producer Rohan Fernando announced the hire Wednesday (May 31).

The studio has a mandate to focus on documentary productions, according to the NFB website. Cowie will be based in Halifax.

Cowie, who was born and raised in Halifax, previously worked at Vice Media in New York for more than 15 years, where she oversaw productions in a variety of mediums, including documentary series, music videos, commercials. She also produced short- and long-form content for Vice on HBO.

She most recently served as senior manager of development and alternative programming for Vice TV, where she oversaw original series such as unscripted titles The Devil You Know and Fringe Nation.

The Quebec & Atlantic Studio team also includes producer Ariel Nasr, who is based in Montreal.

“Her 15 years of producing groundbreaking stories will support the creative community of Quebec and the Atlantic provinces,” said Fernando in a statement.
