Bell Media unveils acquisitions for 2023-24 programming lineup

The slate includes a number of U.S. titles for CTV and two British series for Bell Media's CTV-branded specialty channels.

Bell Media has acquired a handful of U.S. and international series for its 2023-24 broadcast lineup.

The broadcaster kicked off its upfront season with the announcement on Wednesday (May 30), which includes five scripted and unscripted titles slated for CTV, and an additional two for its CTV-branded specialty channels.

The scripted series include CBS drama Tracker (20th Television; pictured), which stars Justin Hartley (This Is Us) and is adapted from the Jeffery Deaver novel The Never Game; Fox lifeguard drama Rescue: HI-Surf (Warner Bros. Television, Fox Entertainment Studios); and ABC crime drama High Potential (Goddard Textiles), based on the French series Haut potentiel intellectuel (HPI).

Notably, none of these series are currently slated for a fall debut on the U.S. networks as studios prepare for the possibility of an extended Writers Guild of America strike, which began on May 2.

CBS announced that Tracker will premiere in February 2024 following the Super Bowl, ABC has listed High Potential as a midseason debut, and Fox has yet to release its fall broadcast schedule as of press time.

Two unscripted series from Fox round out the CTV slate: the game show Snake Oil, produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment and Will Arnett’s Electric Avenue Productions, with David Spade serving as host and producer; and Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test (Banijay), a reality series where celebrities are put through quasi-military training.

Additionally, CTV has picked up the rights to ABC’s Wonderful World of Disney movie lineup.

On the specialty channel front, CTV Drama Channel has picked up the serialized British drama The Killing Kind (Eleventh Hour Films), while CTV Life Channel has expanded its catalogue of content from British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, acquiring his cooking series Jamie Oliver: Cooking For Less.
