A mazon Freevee has acquired Canadian adult-animated comedy Gary and His Demons for U.S. audiences.
The ad-supported streaming service has picked up seasons one and two of the series, produced by Toronto-based animation studio Look Mom! Productions. They will launch simultaneously on the platform on July 7, according to a news release.
Blue Ant International, the distribution arm of the studio’s parentco Blue Ant Media, handles global distribution for the series.
Gary and His Demons is created by Mark Little, with Look Mom! Productions creative director Josh Bowen serving as executive producer. It follows an aging demon hunter ready to retire from saving the world.
The series’ first season (8 x 22 minutes) premiered in 2018 on U.S. streaming platform VRV. Amazon’s Prime Video revived the series for a second season (5 x 22 minutes) in 2022 to stream in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Season one was directed by Lou Solis (Moonbeam City), while season two was helmed by Josh O’Keefe, creator of fellow Look Mom! Productions series Doomlands.
Bryan Gabourie, SVP, international sales and partnerships at Blue Ant International, said in a statement that there “is an incredible demand for original, animated comedy,” adding that Gary and His Demons fulfills audience demand for “clever dialogue and laugh-out-loud moments.”
