Quebec’s ComediHa! has rebranded its distribution division after receiving additional funds to amp up its acquisition work.
Alex Avon (pictured), VP of global distribution, announced Monday (May 8) that ComediHa! Distribution has been relaunched as Amuz Distribution, with a focus on “great comedy and feel-good scripted and unscripted content.”
The Quebec City-based company has received support from Fonds Quebecor, Canada Media Fund and SODEC to acquire new programming for its library, according to a news release. The company is also looking to add new distribution and acquisition roles to the team, and develop original content in-house, while “securing new coproduction and broadcast partners.”
The rebrand is part of a “holistic approach” to the feel-good genre, expanding into long-form programming and dramedies, a spokesperson for the company tells Playback Daily. It will work with third-party producers to develop new IP, as well as working with the ComediHa! production team.
The Amuz Distribution library includes scripted comedy Writer’s Block (Productions Casablanca), variety series In Lieu of Flowers (Zone 3), and dramedy series The Phoenix (Productions Casablanca) and About Antoine (ComediHa!). The distributor will be in Los Angeles for the LA Screenings, which run from May 17 to 19, to look for new acquisition titles.
“We look forward to meeting with many content producers and partners to add to our portfolio and keeping the world feeling good,” said Avon in a statement.
