If someone asked you six months ago who one of the hottest ratings draws on TV would be in 2010, would you have said 88-year-old Betty White?
Probably not. But you never know where buzz will bubble up, and right now Betty is riding a white-hot wave of popularity.
Following her ratings-boosting hosting on Saturday Night Live this past May, White’s latest sitcom, Hot in Cleveland, drew 1.8 million viewers (2+) on CTV Monday night, on par with the debut of CTV comedies Hiccups and Dan For Mayor, which generated 1.9 million each for their first episodes in March.
Also starring Valerie Bertinelli, the show follows four women who accidentally end up in Ohio en route to Paris and wind up staying and renting a home from an eccentric landlord (White). It airs on Monday nights at 8 p.m. (non-simulcast) on the CTV main network. The show debuted June 16 in the U.S. on TV Land to 4.75 million viewers. It was the cable network’s highest-rated broadcast in its 14-year history, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
