Canadians will have their time on the world stage, as the efforts of five homegrown directors have landed in Locarno Film Festival’s official selection.
Curling from Denis Côté and L.A. Zombie (Germany/USA/France) from Canuck director Bruce LaBbruce are two of the 20 films from across the globe in the international competition vying for The Gold Leopard prize.
Côté has previously snagged five awards at Locarno for his films Les États Nordiques (2005), Nos vies privées (2007) and Elle veut le chaos (2008).
Other Canucks will be in the Filmmakers of the Present Competition for emerging filmmakers, including Ivory Tower from Adam Traynor, Jo pour Jonathan from Maxime Giroux and You are There from Daniel Cockburn.
Held in the Italian-Swiss town, the 63rd edition of festival runs August 4-14.
Telefilm had organized screenings in Montreal for Locarno programmers for this year’s fest.
