CBC has said “yes” to a second season of Bollywed.
The CBC original series, about a wedding fashion store in Toronto’s Little India neighbourhood, is produced by Toronto-based HeartHat Entertainment and premiered on CBC and CBC Gem this past January.
Bollywed (pictured) was co-created by HeartHat founder and president Carolyn Meland and director of photography Gurjeet Mann, who serve as executive producers for both seasons. The series showcases the world of South Asian culture and fashion while giving an “authentic” look into the family run business, according to a news release.
The docuseries, filmed in and around Toronto, stars the Singh family, including father Kuki, his wife Sarab, their two children Chandan and Chandni, and daughter-in-law Roop, who have managed the Chandan Fashion shop for nearly 40 years.
Bollywed‘s renewal was announced by the Singh family on Friday evening (March 24) at a special event in Mississauga, Ont., during the Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival, said the release.
Meland described the series as a “labour of love,” in a statement, while Mann added that it was a “dream come true to showcase South Asian culture in such a fun and authentic way.” The two have had the series in the pipeline since 2015 and got a greenlight from CBC in April 2022.
Chandan, lead designer and namesake of the bridal shop, said the family has been working with HeartHat since 2015 to get the series off the ground and “always knew that Bollywed would find the right home.”
Jennifer Dettman, executive director, unscripted content, CBC, said “the series has won over fans from all backgrounds and communities across Canada and beyond.”
