Blumhouse, Atomic Monster to adapt Canadian horror game

The prodcos are developing a feature-length take on the multiplayer game with Montreal studio Behaviour Interactive.

M ontreal-based game studio Behaviour Interactive is in development on a feature film adaptation of multiplayer horror title Dead by Daylight with L.A.-based multimedia company Blumhouse and Australian director James Wan’s prodco Atomic Monster.

Behaviour Interactive EVP Stephen Mulrooney is a producer on the project alongside Wan and Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum. The companies are currently seeking a director and screenwriter for the feature adaptation, according to a news release.

Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer game where one player is designated as the killer, while the other players must find a way to escape before they are slain.

The game features both original characters and licensed ones from familiar horror films, including Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Resident Evil. It has reached more than 50 million players since its launch in 2016.

Executive producers on the project are Behaviour Interactive CEO and executive producer Rémi Racine, Michael Clear and Judson Scott of Atomic Monster, Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek, and Russell Binder of U.S. licensing company Striker Entertainment.

Mulrooney said Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are “ideal partners to craft Dead by Daylight‘s killer entrance onto the big screen,” in a statement.

Wan added that the game is a “love letter to the world of horror,” and its spooky environment filled with a litany of villains is “perfect for a scary cinematic adaptation.”
