Toronto- and New York–based prodco Cineflix Productions, a division of Cineflix Media, has promoted executive producer Jeff Vanderwal to VP, scripted.
Based in Toronto, Vanderwal (pictured) will source, develop and oversee the production of scripted series and films for the division, while reporting to Cineflix Productions’ president and head of content J.C. Mills, according to a news release.
He first joined the scripted team in 2018, and has since developed and produced films including Danishka Esterhazy’s I Was Lorena Bobbitt; Jim Donovan’s Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey; Bradley Walsh’s Undercover Holiday; and Rama Rau’s Bad Behind Bars: Jodi Arias.
He also produced the TV movies Alfons Adetuyi’s Miracle in Motor City; Simone Stock’s Stolen By Their Father; and Gloria Kim’s Left for Dead: The Ashley Reeves Story, which were all sold globally in 2022.
Vanderwal is currently developing a crime series based on Vancouver author Sam Wiebe’s Wakeland novels, and another scripted series that will soon be announced, said the release.
Mills said in a statement that Vanderwal has been “instrumental in building Cineflix Productions’ scripted division with a strong slate of gripping true crime thrillers, modern holiday classics, and compelling series. He’s great with talent, spot-on with story, and delivers high production values necessary to capture an audience.”
Cineflix Productions announced in December it’s developing a documentary anthology examining the descendants of historical and iconic figures. It also partnered with Grammy Award-winning singer and producer Gladys Knight in November to develop a miniseries about her life and career.
