Saloon Media promotes factual producers Kilback, Faulknor

Kilback will oversee the creative and editorial direction of Saloon's unscripted slate as creative director, factual series.

Toronto’s Saloon Media has elevated two factual producers to strengthen its investment in unscripted content.

Paul Kilback (pictured above) has been promoted to creative director, factual series, from his previous role as executive producer at the Blue Ant Media-owned production company, reporting to manager director Michael Kot.

Matt Faulknor has been upped to senior development producer, reporting to Nick Crowe, head of unscripted development.

Kilback has been tasked with overseeing the creative and editorial direction of the prodco’s factual slate. As an executive producer, Kilback has produced a number of Saloon titles, including Life Below Zero Canada, Mysteries from Above, and See No Evil. He also produced titles for Breakthrough Films and Cream Productions prior to joining Saloon.

Faulknor (pictured right) has had a hand in several factual programs in his more than five years as a development producer at Saloon, including Hotel Paranormal, Cold Valley, Bryk Cottage, and Mysteries from Above. He previously produced factual content with Proof & Concept and Pixcom Productions, and was a producer for CBC for several years, working on projects such as Dragons’ Den and its coverage of the Olympic Games.

Kot said the promotions will “increase [Kilback and Faulknor’s] executive capacity, laddering up to Saloon’s commitment to premium, world-class series and documentaries,” in a statement.

The prodco promoted founding partner Steve Gamester to creative director of feature docs, copros and limited series in late 2022 in order to increase its factual portfolio. Parentco Blue Ant Media also announced several key senior promotions earlier this month in a strategy to expand its original content commissions across platforms.
