Toronto’s Vanguarde Artists Management has launched content label Vanguarde Pictures, hiring writer Adam Pettle as executive producer.
The new division will allow the management company to develop an array of scripted content for broadcast, streaming, cable, as well as podcasts. Pettle will work alongside Vanguarde co-heads Tina Horwitz and Jay Horwitz.
Pettle is an established showrunner in the Canadian television industry, previously leading series such as Global’s Nurses, CBC’s Burden of Truth, and CTV’s Saving Hope. He also recently contributed to the development of The Borough, created by Shamier Anderson and Stephan James, as well as serving as the lead creative on the Crave anthology series Festivale, currently in development.
The launch of the label is a “natural progression” for the company, said Tina Horwitz in a statement. She added that the company has “had some very rewarding relationships working with clients as producers,” including herself as executive producer on the CBC series Workin’ Moms. “We look forward to giving these efforts more oxygen,” she said.
Jay Horwitz added that Pettle has “an outstanding track record of mentoring other writers and creators.”
Vanguard Artists is the latest company to look to development to further support its roster of clients. Talent agency Play Management hired producer Andrew McCann Smith in 2021 to lead its content creation arm Play Media to develop IP for the international market.
