SODEC supports 10 Quebec series under TV assistance program

The program is intended to help original Quebec productions increase their production value and competitiveness in the international market.

The Société de développement des entreprises culturelle (SODEC) has selected 10 Quebec series for its television production assistance program designed to enhance a project’s production value.

The program was created to increase the commercial potential of original IP owned by Quebec companies, and to support the promotion of Quebec content in the international market.

The projects include ComediHa’s dramedy À propos d’Antoine (pictured), written by Cathleen Rouleau. The series is inspired by Rouleau’s own experiences as a stepmother to a boy with multiple disabilities, played by his real-life inspiration Antoine Parent-Bédard. It is expected to premiere on Club Illico in 2023.

Other Club Illico projects supported under the SODEC program include two mystery dramas, Détective Surprenant (V10 Media) and Société Distincte (Films Blach), as well as the drama series Dernier recours (Production Les Révoltés).

SODEC also awarded funding to the second season of the comedy Comme des têtes pas de poule (Telefiction Productions), which runs on Club Illico and pubcaster Télé-Québec.

Crave French-language originals supported under the program include the comedy Bon matin Chuck (Les productions St-Laurent TV) and season two of the drama Une affaire criminelle (Sovimage). Another Bell Media title is the second season of Complètement Lycée (Productions ToRoS), which originated as a web series on Noovo, and has been expanded to a 10 x 22-minute series for season two.

Rounding out the projects are season two of the Radio-Canada animated series Mini-Jean et Mini-Bulle (Happy Camper Media), and season two of AddikTV series Classé secret (Duo Productions).
