Hot Sheet: Star Wars franchise dominates digital demand

Netflix’s Stranger Things and HBO’s Game of Thrones continued to top both the digital originals chart and overall TV series list for the week of Oct. 24 to 30.

The force was strong with Disney+’s Tales of the Jedi, which made its debut in the top five of the digital originals list following its series premiere.

The animated Star Wars anthology series (pictured), created by Dave Filoni, was 19.62 times more in demand than the average series in Canada for the week of Oct. 24 to 30, according to Parrot Analytics. The six-episode series premiered on Oct. 26 and came in at No. 4 on the digital originals list for the week.

A total of three Star Wars series made the digital original list for the week. Disney+’s Andor held steady at No. 3 on the digitals chart, and rose to No. 7 on the overall TV list with 22.29 – a slightly lower number than the previous week’s 22.6. Meanwhile, fellow Disney+ original The Mandalorian held the No. 6 spot at 17.65.

At the top of the digital originals list for the week was Netflix’s Stranger Things, which was 28.14 times more in demand than the average series for the week – a slight decrease from the previous week’s 28.95. The sci-fi series also appeared on the overall TV series chart at No. 3.

Meanwhile, Hulu original The Handmaid’s Tale came in at No. 2 on the digitals list and fourth on the overall TV series chart with a demand average of 26.97 – a decrease from the previous week’s 27.19.

For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market.
