Canadian scripted titles Wynonna Earp (pictured) and Coroner are among a number of titles Cineflix Media’s distribution arm has sold to the Nordics during MIPCOM. All four seasons of Wynonna Earp (29 x 60 minutes; SEVEN24 Films, IDW Entertainment, Cineflix Studios) were picked up by streaming service C More, while season four of Coroner (12 x 60 minutes; Muse Entertainment, Cineflix Studios, Back Alley Films) was acquired by Icelandic media company Sýn hf.
Other sales to the Nordics include the U.K.’s Whitstable Pearl (6 x 45 minutes; Buccaneer Media) to Sweden (STV), Finland (YLE), Denmark (TV2), Norway (NRK) and Acorn TV; seasons one and two of Israeli thriller Manayek (20 x 45 minutes; Yoav Gross) for Viaplay Nordics, which has also acquired French drama Rebecca (8 x 60 minutes; Elephant); and Icelandic political drama The Minister (8 x 60 minutes; Sagafilm) to HBO Max.
Additionally, Cineflix Rights has pre-sold Australian crime drama Last King of the Cross (10 x 60 minutes; Helium Pictures) to the network Sky for Italy, the U.K., Ireland and Germany. Cineflix acquired worldwide rights to the series in February.
Indiecan Entertainment
Jules Arita Koostachin’s feature-length drama Broken Angel and short film MisTik have been acquired by Indiecan Entertainment ahead of their world bows at the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival, which runs until Oct. 30. The Toronto-based company has picked up North American distribution rights and will represent international sales for both titles. The deal was negotiated by Indiecan CEO Avi Federgreen, Koostachin and Broken Angel producer Patti Poskitt.
Broken Angel and MisTik will have their world premiere at imagineNATIVE on Oct. 20. Both titles are written, directed and produced by Koostachin. The release strategy includes a limited theatrical run, community-based screenings, educational distribution and a VOD launch across North America, according to a news release.
Pixcom Productions
Public broadcaster PBS has acquired U.S. rights to seasons two and three of Quebec drama series The Wall (17 x 60 minutes), produced by Montreal-based prodco Pixcom. The seasons will be added to the Walter’s Choice collection on streamer PBS Passport, curated by Italian producer Walter Iuzzolino. Global distribution rights to the series are held by Germany’s Beta Film. The series has previously been sold to Australia (SBS), Spain (Cosmopolitan TV), the Middle East and North Africa (MBC Group), and France (NBCUniversal).
Wavelength Entertainment
Wavelength Entertainment has inked a co-development agreement with royalty-free video marketplace Pond5 to produce factual series and documentaries using footage, animation and images from the content library. The docuseries Six Degrees of Inspiration (9 x 60 minutes) has been financed as part of the deal and will be promoted during MIPCOM this week. Wavelength Entertainment is a production company and distributor with several offices in Canada, including Vancouver, Toronto and Regina.
