Stellar Creative Lab opens Toronto CG animation studio

The Vancouver-based company's new location will be led by line producer Tracy Grant.

Vancouver’s Stellar Creative Lab has expanded with the launch of a new Toronto-based CG animation studio.

The studio is led by line producer Tracy Grant (pictured), and is currently in the recruitment and hiring process with plans to “start with smaller teams in multiple departments,” according to a news release. It will offer remote work and in-studio artist space, and will have a focus on premium series and features, including kids and family content.

The Toronto location’s first project is an “an adult CG-animated series for a well-known streaming service.”

Stellar Creative Lab was founded five years ago by former Nelvana producer Hasmi Ferguson and VFX supervisor Bert Van Brande. The company has provided animation services on projects such as Marvel Studios’ What If…?, Disney short films Baymax Dreams, and the Dreamworks Animation series Kung-Fu Panda: Dragon Knight.

Ferguson said the company launched the Toronto location after being “inundated with applications from experienced, exceptional Ontario artists who want to work on high quality adult properties,” in a statement.
