Foreign directors

and foreign days

L.A.-based Otherworld director Nick Rafter was up in Vancouver again, this time for a Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Canada spot from Chiat/Day. Rafter worked with dop Steve Ramsey.

LTB Productions picked up a slew of foreign days. Philip Kates had a day for Kellogg’s from Leo Burnett Germany. This is his second project for them. Doug Koch had two days for hbo from Kobs and Draft Advertising in New York, and Jeff Jones scooped four days for Midland Walwyn Capital from omi in New York.

Recent projects at Circle Productions: director/dop Stephen Yeates had three days for Unitel from Ogilvy and Mather. Robert Turner picked up seven days for the Ontario Milk Marketing Board and Watt/Burt-McKim Baker Lovick. Michael Buckley handled camera. Turner also headed south to Florida for three days on a Florida State Lottery shoot. The project came out of Earle Palmer Brown and the dop was Ward Russell. Eugene Beck spent a day on a psa for the ABC Literacy Foundation from Harrod and Mirlin.

Imported Artists director Richard D’Alessio finished two jobs for Bell Canada and three days for Rice Krispies, both from Leo Burnett, as well as two days from Geoffrey B. Roche and Partners for the Toronto Star. D’Alessio handled camera on the Burnett shoots, while Simon Mestel was dop on the Star shoot (which took place in Toronto, Kansas!). Jon Hopp of Third Floor will edit the Star and Bell spots, while Peer Engelhardt will handle the Rice Krispies spot. (For those who don’t already know, veteran editor Engelhardt, of Lonestar, is now working in partnership with Marty Kravshik under Reel Ideas).

Imported also picked up a special project for director Larry Hutson from Molson Breweries and Vickers and Benson. There was a two-day shoot for the launch of Molson’s signature series as well as an additional day in Calgary on ‘a secret (Molson) project.’

In Montreal, Figaro Films director Cosimo Cavallaro won a big five-day Bell assignment from Cossette Communication-Marketing. The date produced five French 30s including ‘Villes jumelees,’ ‘Rolodex’ and ‘Techno confondues.’ Guy Dufaux was the dop. Centre de Montage Electronique handled post-production.

Cinelande director Serge Jacques and dop Walter Bal used bodybuilding metaphors in a spot for anel, a book publishers association, and Publicite Martin. The shoot took place in-studio at Cinelande.

At La Fabrique d’Images, director Francois Gingras and dop Yves Belanger shot ‘Maxime et le pere noel’ for Metro-Richelieu’s Christmas Eve promotion. The spot is out of agency Presence Plus. Marc S.Grenier and dop Belanger executed the tv product launch for Star Plus, a new weekly Quebecois showbiz magazine. Supersuite handled transfer duties. AstralTech provided lab services and Buzz did the post-production. The two 30s are out of Tam Tam Publicite.

More action at La Fabrique includes a new French 30 for Bell’s long-distance business promotions and a 30 for Restaurants Pacini. Bell’s ‘Monsieur B./Sollicitation,’ produced for agency Cossette, was directed by Jean-Francois Pouliot, with dop Steve Danyluk. Centre de Montage Electronique and Buzz shared post duties. The two-day Pacini shoot, out of Enigma, was directed by Claude Marchand, with busy cinematographer Danyluk on board.
