Toronto Women in Film and Television has announced the winners for its seventh annual awards gala – an event set up to recognize notable accomplishments of Canadian women working in film and television.
The Lifetime Achievement Award this year goes to the late actor Kate Reid. Heather MacGillivray, vice-president programming for Family Channel, has been chosen for the Astral Award for Outstanding Contribution, and filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin will receive an Outstanding Achievement Award for her documentary Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance. Joan Hutton, president of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers, and journalist Ann Medina will also receive Outstanding Achievement Awards. Jay Switzer, vice-president of CHUM/ City, is this year’s male award-winner for contributing to women’s development in the industry.
The awards will be given out at a gala March 16 in Toronto, hosted by comedians Elvira Kurt and Wendy Hopkins. PC
