Sauve winners named

Canadian Women in Radio and Television announced the winners of the first annual Jeanne Sauve Awards earlier this month. This year’s awards provide an internship with the Department of Canadian Heritage for two women working in the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors. Each year, a different communications sector will be featured.

The winners – selected by members of Canadian Heritage, the communications industry, and cwrt – are Susan Brinton, manager of business affairs and program development at ckvu-tv Vancouver, and Kirsten Embree, director of regulatory matters for Unitel in Ottawa.

Policy development

Brinton and Embree will spend three months learning about the department’s policy development and positioning within the communications industry. They will also be asked to participate in the creation of communications strategies.

The incentive for the Jeanne Sauve Awards is part of a larger policy at cwrt to advance the involvement and impact of women in the communications industries.

The cost of the internships – valued at $12,000 each – is covered by Canadian Heritage.

The 1995 awards will take candidates from the film, cable and specialty service sectors.
