Jonathan Keijser’s Peace by Chocolate (pictured) has hit a milestone in its theatrical run, crossing the $100,000 mark over the Victoria Day long weekend.

The feature, which follows a Syrian family forced to flee to Canada after their chocolate factory is burned down, has earned $115,190 as of May 24, according to Comscore, and marks one of the highest-grossing English Canada releases in 2022 so far.

Meanwhile, French-language drama Norbourg retained its spot as the No. 1 Canadian film at the box office during the period of May 13 to 19.

Directed by Maxime Giroux, the feature earned $81,086 in its fourth week in theatres, an increase from $63,715 the week prior. Its total box office revenue came to more than $616,000 for the week.

Norbourg, which is based on a real-life financial scam in Canada, is produced by Films du Boulevard and distributed by Entract Films.

Peace by Chocolate earned $43,407 during its second week in theatres to land at No. 2. The film is produced by Keijser, Martin Paul-Hus, Catherine Légar, and Kathy Wolf, and distributed by Vortex Media.

Wendy Hill-Tout’s Marlene returned to the top five list in its sixth week at the No. 3 spot, earning $10,298 for a total Canadian box office gross of $48,135. The film is based on the true story of wrongfully Marlene Truscott, whose husband Steven was wrongfully convicted of murder. It is produced by Voice Pictures and distributed by Vortex Media.

Geneviève Albert’s Noémie dit oui (produced by Leitmotiv Films; distributed by K Films) fell one spot to No. 4, earning $8,238 in its sixth week for a total box office gross of $52,080; meanwhile, Patrice Laliberté’s Very Nice Day (Très belle journée) (produced by Couronne Nord; distributed by h264 Distribution) grossed $4,320 in its second week, with a total of $9,253.
