Encore taps Radke for Molson

Radke Films’ Richard Radke had three days for Molson Canadian from Encore Communications with dop Gabor Tarko and three days in Toronto for American Greeting Cards from Wyse Advertising of Cleveland with dop Barry Peterson. Radke director Phil Kates and dop Andre Pienaar hopped down south to Miami for a three-day Budweiser package from Palm in Montreal.

At Apple Box Productions’ Toronto office, recent addition director Stephen Onyett joined dop Nick Allen-Woolfe on a four-day Uncle Ben’s Sauces assignment from Backer Spielvogel Bates. Alex Eaton of Third Floor Editing edited the pool of four spots (three English, one French).

Director/dop Steve Gordon of Damast Gordon & Associates picked up three projects recently: a day for Nestle’s Friskies cat food from MacLaren:Lintas, a day for McDonald’s from Vickers and Benson, and another day for McDonald’s, this one from Cossette. Andy Attalai at Chameleon posted all the projects. Gordon also handled camera duties on a spot for Pearle Vision eye glasses. Boris Damast directed that spot from gsd&m Texas.

At LTB Productions, director/ dop Harry Makin had two days for Pampers and one for Whiskas, both from dmb&b. Chris Nolan had two days for Electrasol and bsb. Barry Peterson handled camera on that one. Nolan also picked up two days for Leon’s from BBDO Response, with David (son of Harry) Makin on camera. David McIlvaney got a day for Delta Faucets from MacLaren, with dop Tarko. And Peterson donned his dop/director’s caps on a spot for Unitel from Ogilvy and Mather.

At The Partners’ Film Company, director Greg Sheppard and director/dop Stanley Mestel shot a two-part project for Hyundai from bsb. Sheppard and Mestel worked together on a portion shot in Tampa, while Mestel handled director/dop duties on the Toronto leg of the shoot. David Baxter of Partners’ Post edited.

In Montreal, Jet Films director Michel David and dop Jean-Pierre Trudel shot three new 30s for Banque Nationale and agency foug. The spots are a tie-in for the bank’s backing of Cirque du Soleil. Director Jean-Marc Vallee and Toronto-based dop Sean Valenti got the call on two French 30s for Harvey’s and Allard Communication Marketing. Shot at the Panavision studios, the spots take a humorous look at what happens when cowboys and Frenchmen get together. Post-production and film-to-tape transfer were done at Supersuite. Air Tango handled sound and music.

Meanwhile, Alastair Paton and Valenti were the team on two new Monty Pythonesque 15s and two 30s for regional Quebec telephone company Telebec out of agency Tam Tam Publicite. Also at Jet, there’s word of a major shoot for Molson Dry and bcp but details are still fuzzy.

At Cinelande, film action includes spots for Nintendo’s ‘Warioland,’ Kellogg’s lime-flavored Fruit Loops and A. Lassonde’s Rougemont apple juice.

From RTA Publicite, the Nintendo 30 called ‘Dungeon’ was directed by Jean Marc Piche. Pierre Gill was the cinematographer and the elaborate graphics and animation are compliments of DHD PostImage. Gill directed and lit the new Fruit Loops spot, also from rta, with animation and editing by Hybride Technologies. The Rougemont juice commercial reworks the hard-to-resist William Tell legend and was also handled by the busy duo of Piche and Gill. The shoot is out of Groupaction Marketing.

A couple of corrections to last issue’s column: Radke Films director John Mastromonaco handled the Wampole vitamins shoot, not Richard Radke. And the English-language version of the Procter & Gamble Always spot from dmb&b was handled by Partners’ director Arianne Smith and dop Andre Pienaar.
