Spring brings new ad action

revolver’s Floria Sigismondi recently directed a spot for the National Basketball Association’s name-the-team promotion from Cossette Communication-Marketing. Sigismondi worked with dop Sean Valentini.

At Circle Productions, Robert Turner had a day for Turner Broadcasting Classic Movies and Smash Advertising. Ward Russell handled camera. Russell also worked with Turner on three days for Seldane from SMW Advertising. Circle’s Fred Frame wrapped five days in Hawaii for a&w from McKim Baker Lovick/bbdo. Busy Russell shot that one, too. Frame also grabbed a day in Vancouver for Sport Select Lottery from Scali McCabe Sloves. Phil Linzey handled camera.

Director/cameraman James Weiner had a day in Toronto for McArthur Glen Outlet Malls in Virginia.

Bongard Films completed a pool of English/French spots for L&F’s Thompson’s Water Seal and Deck Wash products. Director/dop Ralph Bongard shot the spots, which were posted by Bob Buchan at mpv. The job was out of Cossette.

At The Partners’ Film Company, Texas-based director John Zurik shot a Trojan condoms spot from Backer Spielvogel Bates, with Stanley Mestel on camera. Director Dale Heslip and dop Andre Pienaar had two days for Unitel from Ogilvy & Mather. Bruce Copeman edited. Director Kari Skogland had a Fleecy spot from Young and Rubicam. James Gardner handled camera and David Baxter did post.

HooDoo Films director Tim Hamilton came through The Partners’ Film Company to direct a spot for Home Hardware. The spot, shot by Craig Mullens, came from The Saffer Group.

At The Players, director David McNally wrapped three 15s from fcb for a mystery product. Doug Koch and Barry Parrel handled the two-camera shoot, which will be posted at the Daily Post. Director Mark Walton just finished two days from Saatchi & Saatchi for Second Harvest, a food bank. Parrel handled camera on that also. Wendy Linton at Chameleon will edit.

Director/dop Amir Hamed of Imported Artists has a cross-country adventure coming up. He’ll spend two days in Toronto for Bell Canada from mbl/bbdo Toronto, then he’s off to do two days for BC Tel from bbdo Vancouver.

TOPIX Computer Graphics and Animation wrapped a 90-second spot for Coca-Cola from McCann-Erickson. The spot will run on the SkyDome stadium’s Jumbotron screen and has been re-edited and adapted to be a television commercial. James Cooper directed and artists were Fay Grambart, Marco Polsinelli, Aaron Weintraub and David Willows. topix has also completed the first in a pool of three spots for Nestle’s Instant Cappuccino, again from McCann. William Cameron directed, with Sam Ditta the animator.

Robert Logevall of The Directors Film Company was in Vancouver for a two-day shoot for McDonald’s from Palmer Jarvis. dop was Tobias Schliessler.

At Damast Gordon & Associates, Boris Damast and dop Peter Hartmann shot a spot for Kodak from Young and Rubicam. Chris Parkins at Flashcut edited and Tantrum Productions provided the music.

In Montreal, commercial action at La Fabrique d’Images includes shoots for saaq, the Quebec automobile insurance board, and a new French 30 for Procter and Gamble’s Always.

Director Maryse Raymond and dop Steve Danyluk helmed the two-day saaq shoot out of agency Groupe Action Martin. The French/English 30 features Lillehammer mogul silver medalist Philippe Laroche promoting the use of helmets for cyclists. The spot was posted at Buzz. Sound was done at Sonolab, AstralTech handled lab duties, and the film-to-tape transfer was done at both Supersuite and Centre de montage electronique.

The p&g 30, ‘Sachet Eclair,’ out of dmb&b, was directed by Gilles Kasprzak.

Cinelande reports new shoots for Pepsi and Blouin Coulombe Dube Thompson and Loto-Quebec and Communications bleu blanc rouge.

Claude Meunier carries on as the nutty spokesman for Pepsi in three 30s shot in-studio at Cinelande by director Charles Biname and dop Pierre Gill. Andre Guimond art directed. Meanwhile, actor Remy Girard takes center stage in a local neighborhood depanneur in a new Loto Banco spot directed by Erik Canuel, with J.P. Trudel the dop.
