Spin adds Contour

Bending and distorting of images will not be limited to return visits to Woodstock thanks to a new device at Toronto’s Spin Productions. Spin has brought in Contour, ‘part of the new special effects package from Quantel known as Max.’

Any of Spin’s Henry clients can take advanatge of 3D image bending – page turning and more complicated distortions. Henry’s versatile pen and tablet allows his operator to manipulate video images beyond the scope of the ‘corner pinning technique,’ allowing manipulation in 3D space and key-framing so that the operator can animate ‘from one shape to another over a series of consecutive frames.’ Max also contains the Mega Blur and Noise FX features. Mega Blur allows defocusing of sharp images, and, on a multilayered process, pulling focus from a foreground to a background layer. Noise FX allows for performing of ‘progressive image degradation.’
