Rockie winners

Banff: American productions scaled the peaks at the 15th annual Banff Television Festival, taking home five of the 13 Rockie Awards. A record 568 programs from 38 countries were entered.

Innocence Lost – The Verdict, written, produced and directed by Ofra Bikel and executive produced by David Fanning for the wgbh documentary series Frontline, won both for Best Social and Political Documentary as well as the Best of the Festival award.

Other American winners were: NYPD Blues (Best Continuing Series), produced by Steven Bochco Productions; Frasier (Best Comedy), executive produced by David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee; and Fires In The Mirror (Special Jury Award), produced by Cherie Fortis Productions in association with American Playhouse.

The Netherlands won for I’m Going To Tahiti (Best Short Drama), produced by F.J. de Graaf and M. van Rijn, and Master Composers: Henryk Gorecki (Best Arts Documentary), produced by Vera de Vries. Prime Suspect 3, produced by Sally Head for Granada Television in the u.k., won for Best Mini-Series. The Snapper, produced by Linda Myles and directed by Stephen Frears, won Best Made For TV Movie. Best Children’s Program went to Il Danse Pour Ses Cormorans, produced by France’s Boreales Productions.

Other winners: Mahagonny (Best Performance Special), produced by Arja Nurmi and Kari Paukkunen of Finland; Under Your Skin – Eye Magic (Best Popular Science Program), produced by Katharina Trebitsch for ZDF Television, Germany; and Granada’s Celebration: Paper Marilyn (Special Jury Award).
