James Cowan tapped as managing director of Picture Shop Vancouver

The Streamland Media subsidiary, which offers colour and editing post-production services, has two locations in Vancouver.

Post-production veteran James Cowan has been named managing director of Picture Shop Vancouver.

Picture Shop is a subsidiary of Streamland Media and provides a number of post-production services, including colour, editorial and dailies, as well as mastering and restoration services. Picture Shop has two locations in Vancouver and one in Toronto, as well as U.S. offices in L.A. and New York and U.K. offices in London and Cardiff, Wales.

As managing director, Cowan will be based at the Vancouver facility on Columbia Street and will report to Streamland Media CEO Bill Romeo.

Cowan has more than 20 years of experience working in Vancouver’s post-production industry, most recently serving as general manager of Company 3 Vancouver, and general manager of Deluxe Entertainment Services Group before that. His credits include Prime Video series The Man in the High Castle and films It’s All Gone Peter Tong, 50/50 and The Butterfly Effect.

He has held a “critical role” in advancements within the industry, according to a release from Streamland, helping to establish the use of HDR (high dynamic range) for film and TV visuals.

“James’ leadership experience and deep industry knowledge will be integral to Picture Shop’s continued growth,” said Romeo in a statement. “He brings creative experience, technical prowess and invaluable industry insight to the company. James shares our culture philosophy and that makes him a natural fit with the incredible team he is joining. They consistently raise the bar for customer service and quality; and those are also core values to James.”

Picture Shop Vancouver was formerly Finalé Post before the company was acquired by Streamland Media in 2019.

Streamland’s portfolio of post-production companies includes Sim Post, which it acquired in 2021 in addition to France-based company Technicolor Post, which included its offices in Vancouver and Toronto.
