Race Against the Tide makes waves with global format options

The marblemedia-produced reality competition series has been optioned for local adaptations in European territories, Australia and New Zealand.

Distribution360 (D360) has sold option rights for marblemedia’s unscripted competition series Race Against the Tide in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

A number of production companies and studios have acquired the rights for local adaptations, including BBC Studios for French and German-speaking territories in Europe; Eureka Productions for Australia; Tern Television for the U.K. and Ireland; EQ Media Group for New Zealand; and Free Kings for Dutch-speaking Belgium.

Race Against the Tide, which was created and produced by D360 parentco marblemedia, brings together sand-sculpting experts as they compete to build eye-popping works of art before the tide comes in to wash them away.

The 10 x 30-minute series first premiered on CBC on Sept. 9, 2021, and was filmed on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick.

Race Against the Tide really captured a lot of attention when it was launched at MIPCOM, and we are thrilled to head into MIPTV with the momentum of such prominent production companies signed up to develop this series in their own territory,” said Diane Rankin, D360’s SVP rights and executive producer, in a statement. “Creatives immediately saw the opportunity for this environmentally friendly competition series to have a uniquely localized look and feel that showcases their own coastal backdrops and beaches.”
