Tolusso named at Nelvana
Former Playback editor Susan Tolusso has been named manager of communications at Nelvana. Tolusso’s responsibilities will include responding to inquiries from the investment community and news media as well as co-ordinating publications and information released by the company.

The crtc has approved ckvr-tv’s application to operate as a full-time, regional television service for viewers in south-central Ontario independent of the cbc. The crtc also approved an application from the cbc to provide television service to central Ontario using transmitters in Barrie, Huntsville and Parry Sound. The changes will be in effect in September 1995.
On the A list
New Ottawa company the *A* Picture Company, headed by Ramona Macdonald, and Montreal-based Jona Rapopart have signed an agreement to produce Chinese director Yin Li’s second feature film, Dance, Take Me to Jerusalem, the story of Shanghai’s Jewish community in the 1940s. The project is slated to go into production in January 1995 and will be released in August 1995.
A leg up
Telefilm Canada and the Directors Guild of Canada awarded five up-and-coming directors from Western Canada $10,000 each towards the production of short films. The winners of the 1994 Kick Start program are: Vancouver’s Robert Bennett, Elizabeth Murray and Nicholas Racz; Saskatchewan’s Donna Caruso; and Manitoba’s Gary Yates.

Paragon Entertainment has appointed Kenneth DuBow vice-president of u.s. television sales. A 14-year veteran of the syndication industry, DuBow comes to Paragon from Pandora International Entertainment Group, New York, where he was head of North American sales.
