CBC strikes content deal with ITV Studios

The deal includes an extension to CBC's rights to the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street.

CBC has acquired a raft of international titles for its platforms in a content deal with U.K. producer and distributor ITV Studios.

The agreement includes an extension of CBC’s Canadian rights to the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street (pictured) for CBC TV and Gem. The series, which has run since 1960, airs weeknights on CBC.

A number of scripted series have also been acquired for CBC Gem, including courtroom drama Showtrial, produced by U.K. prodco World Productions; Swedish police procedural Thin Blue Line (Anagram Sweden); and season two of British drama Noughts + Crosses (Mammoth Screen). All three will have winter premieres on the streaming service.

Australian titles acquired for CBC Gem include series two of dramedy Bump (Roadshow Rough Diamond) and new comedy Spreadsheet (Northern Pictures).

The deal also includes HBO Max original animation Ten Year Old Tom, produced by Work Friends, a joint venture between producer Nick Weidenfeld and the ITV-backed Tomorrow Studios, and Scandinavian thriller Greyzone (Cosmo Films). Both series are currently available on CBC Gem.

Rounding out the content deal are factual titles such as the British documentary The Queen Unseen, season 10 of the docuseries Paul O’Grady: For The Love Of Dogs (MultiStory Media) and the Royal Variety Performance 2021. The factual titles are for CBC TV and CBC Gem.
