Sons and Daughters tops Showcase awards

Zima Junction Productions’ Sons and Daughters took the top prize at the Saskatchewan Film and Video Showcase awards.

The black-and-white film by Regina-based Robin Schlaht took best overall production, received the Saskfilm travel bursary, and also won in the experimental category.

Heartland Motion Pictures’ Guitarman won a special achievement award. Producers Stephen Onda, Will Dixon, executive producer Kevin DeWalt and associate producers Stephen Hall and Gail Tilson also had their tv movie recognized for best art direction (Jim Phillips), cinematography (Barry Parrell), best musical score (Jim Folk and Rob Bryanton), and best overall sound (Folk, Bryanton and William Butler).

Independent Moving Productions’ Lost Legacy, directed by Cheryl Jackson and produced by Tilson, Onda and Lori Kuffner, got the nod for best documentary, best script (Jackson), and videography honors (Ken Krawczyk).

Partners in Motion’s Circle of Victory, produced and directed by Chris Triffo, won for editing (Brett Bell and Doug Russell), direction and best tv special.

Heartland’s Utopia Cafe, directed by Hall who produced the series with Onda, was chosen as best tv program in a series and best first production.

Minds Eye Picture’s Sasktel – Alexander Graham Bell, the best commercial winner, was directed by Hobby Morrison and produced by Rob King. Best music video was Cinepost Productions’ Walk on Water from director/producer Bill Stampes. Down on the Farm, directed by Mark Behrend and produced by Anthony Towstego, was the educational winner.

Cable Regina’s On the Road To Big Valley took best cable; best industrial was Evidence Films’ Out of Control!; Tobi Lampard’s Miss Dudevant’s Hand took the student award; Heartland’s What on Earth presenter Bruce Steele won for best host; and Chris Bailey took the Superchannel script development award.
