Mestel, Zurik have Midas touch

Starting with Avion Film Productions in Toronto, John Zurik directed and Stan Mestel shot three days for Midas through Ogilvy and Mather. Mestel and director Dan Hackett will pick up the spring campaign for Canadian Tire through Doner Schur Peppler. And out of Bozell Palmer Bonner, Rhett Morita will direct and shoot a day for HP Sauce.

Over at Radke Films, director Ron Baxter Smith and dop Sean Valentini got together for a couple days for Nizoral and agency Health Wise.

Damast Gordon and Associates’ Dan Izzard pulled double duty as director/dop for Saatchi and Saatchi on a spot for Lemon Ivory Liquid. The two-day assignment was edited by Flashcut Editing’s Gillian McCarthy. Special effects were performed at Command Post and Transfer.

Steve Gordon directed and shot two days for Kraft Alfredo Pasta and Cheese out of J. Walter Thompson. Spin Productions handled the post effects and Ted Rosnick did the music. Andy Attalai of Chameleon Film and Video took care of the editing. Through dga, Flashcut’s Bob Kennedy edited an assignment for Lean Cuisine.

For Canada Trust and Massachusetts-based agency Mullen Advertising, Bill Irish of Kessler Irish Films directed six days in Vancouver, with Michael Strong working the camera. Third Floor Editing’s Richard Unruh posted.

At The Directors Film Company, director Doug Moshoian and dop Harry Lake teamed up on a job for Leon’s and Doner. Smash’s Barry Farrell posted the one-day assignment, with Robert Armes taking music credits.

Director/dop Wade Ferley of Circle Productions scored two days for Scott Paper Towels through J. Walter Thompson in Vancouver. For Rolex, Japan, Shin Sugino landed one day of film and one day of stills, and Louis Lyne completed a psa for ms in Los Angeles.

Also at Circle, Blair Hayes spent a day in l.a. on a job for Franklin Sporting Goods and Arnold Advertising, Boston.

At Imported Artists, director Gary Johns joined forces with dop Tom Olgeirson for six days in l.a. on a job for an undisclosed client. The assignment, through bbdo, was posted by Mick Griffin of Flashcut.

At Apple Box Productions, director Stephen Onyett teamed with dop John Spooner on two days for London Drugs. The job, through Young and Rubicam, was shot in Edmonton.

Speaking of Edmonton, Apple Box director Bob Keates and Spooner have a date with Don Cherry and the Western Canada Lotteries Corporation to introduce a new Sport Select game.

Moving further west to the Vancouver contingent of Apple Box, director/dop Chris Tammaro took the wheel on a gm Astrovan assignment through MacLaren Lintas, while Greg Marquette shot and directed two days for Ford Minivan and y&r:fmda.

In Montreal, La Fabrique d’Images director Jacques Fournier shot two French/English 30s, ‘La Gardienne I & II,’ for Restaurants McDonald’s and Cossette. Jean-Pierre Trudel was the dop on the two-day shoot. The music came from Michel Corriveau and Air Tango. Buzz handled post. AstralTech prepared lab services and Supersuite did the transfer to tape.

Director Jean-Francois Pouliot and dop Steve Danyluk teamed on a 60-second Bell Quebec New Year’s promo featuring spokesman Benoit Briere et famille. Jean-Marie Benoit was the music composer and Cossette the agency.

Cinelande has a couple of major car commercials in the works and a big, 20-day beauty-shot assignment for Zellers’ 1995 tv campaign. The Zellers job is being shot in-studio at Cinelande, with Frederick D’Amours directing and Bruce Chung the dop.

At Jet Films, veteran director Michel David is busy with shoots for Lebeau Auto and bcp, Dunkin Donuts out of Armada/Bates and bbb, and MasterCard and agency LG2. Cinematographers associated with the three dates include J.P. Trudel and the busy Danyluk.

Jet Film’s Sylvain Archambault directed and produced a new Harvey’s spot for Allard Communication as well as a mini-special hailing the return of nhl hockey for Brasserie Molson O’Keefe and bcp.

And Neil McGregor directed two spots, including an English/ French 30, for Northumberland, the New Brunswick dairy co-op, and Publicite Martin. Danyluk lit the set. McGregor also got the call on the new MetroStar promo, the TVA Network’s annual public choice awards show. LG2 is the agency. Pierre Mignon was the cinematographer and the job was posted on the Henry at Supersuite.
