Cancom renewed, butÉ
The crtc has issued a three-year licence renewal for Canadian Satellite Communications, extending its term to Aug. 31, 1998. It also reduced the maximum monthly fee that Cancom is able to charge cable companies for delivery of its signal package. In turn, the cable companies plan to pass the reduced cost of transmitting via digital video compression down to the consumer.
At the same time, the commission denied a proposal by Chamcook Communications to deliver u.s. network signals to the Atlantic provinces by satellite.
