No official word was available at press time, but all signs point to Family Channel and Canadian Satellite Communications filing a lawsuit against DirecTv of Los Angeles.
DirecTv’s response to a warning letter sent by Cancom and Family Channel has been inadequate, says John Riley, vice-president, business affairs and in-house council for Family Channel.
Officially, the consortium is in the process of deciding whether to take legal action, but an inside source says a lawsuit is imminent.
The consortium is claiming Family Channel’s long-term licensing agreement for Disney programming is being breached by DirecTv satellite service, which includes the Disney Channel in its mix.
