R-Q budget slashed
radio-Quebec has announced its 1995/96 government appropriation is being reduced by an additional $10 million. This is on top of an $1.8 million reduction announced last year.
According to Andre Beaudet, Radio-Quebec’s director of communications, the cuts will have a major impact on original programming levels and therefore an effect on advertising revenues, leaving the public broadcaster with an anticipated shortfall in 1995/96 of $15 million, or 20% of its current budget.
R-Q is expected to make recommendations to government on the broadcaster’s future by the end of the month.
