Licence winners & losers
The crtc has granted Victory Christian Fellowship of Lethbridge, Alta. a licence (expiry date: Aug. 31, 2001) for its new over-the-air English-language tv station in Alberta. Cherry Point Community Promotion Association of Dawson Creek, b.c. was denied. The decisions follow a public hearing last June in Saskatoon, and subsequent requested clarification of the applications. The two were the first single-faith groups to apply under the crtc’s new flexible policy on religious broadcasting.
Victory’s programming will contain no ads, and its Cancon commitment ranges from 70%-80%.
Cherry Point’s application failed to satisfy the crtc’s balance and ethics principles.
