Vancouver-based Big Bad Boo Studio’s Galapagos X has been greenlit by a number of Canadian pubcasters, including TVOKids, SRC Radio-Canada, Knowledge Kids and TFO.
The 26 x 11 minute series, which will premiere in March 2023, follows four kids who travel back in time to prevent a future eco-disaster from taking place.
It targets kids ages six to 11 and has a climate change curriculum woven throughout its episodes, says Big Bad Boo director Shabnam Rezaei.
Galapagos X also has a VR component that Big Bad Boo has been working on with Google Expeditions since 2019. Due out at the same time as the series, this companion experience — available on Google Cardboard and the Expeditions app — will take kids on live-action AR- and VR-driven journeys to different landmarks around the world and different times in history.
