Network Entertainment, Universal Music, CBC team for Anne Murray doc

The film will screen as a one-night theatrical event at 50 select Cineplex theatres across Canada ahead of its broadcast and streaming premiere on CBC TV and CBC Gem.

A n upcoming feature documentary on legendary Canadian singer Anne Murray will premiere theatrically in Canada ahead of its broadcast and streaming debut via the CBC.

Anne Murray: Full Circle is produced for the pubcaster by Vancouver-headquartered Network Entertainment in association with Universal Music Canada, and celebrates the life and career of the musical icon.

The film will screen as a one-night theatrical event at 50 select Cineplex theatres across Canada on December 2 ahead of its broadcast and streaming premiere on CBC TV and CBC Gem, respectively, on December 17.

The documentary will feature interviews with Murray about her evolution as a trailblazing female Canadian artist from the ’60s and ’70s to being a global superstar, selling more than 55 million albums across the pop, country and adult contemporary genres over her 40-year career.

The film also includes never-before-seen footage from Murray’s personal archives, along with interviews with artists, collaborators, and colleagues such as Shania Twain, k.d. lang, Bonnie Raitt, Jann Arden, Kenny Loggins, and Gordon Lightfoot.

“It’s a surreal and sometimes unnerving feeling to watch your life replay itself on screen, but I am honoured to have my story told by such a creative team,” Murray said in a statement.

“Seeing the old footage and hearing the words of my dear friends and collaborators takes me back to both the good times and the not so good ones. Throughout my career, the loyalty and support of my fans have been a constant. They were there with me every step of the way, even when others were not. I hope they enjoy this trip down memory lane.”

Anne Murray: Full Circle is directed by Morgan Elliott and Adrian Buitenhuis and produced by Network’s Lynn Fuhr, John Barbisan, and Buitenhuis.

Executive producers are Derik Murray, Bruce Allen, Darlene Sawyer, Tim Gamble, Jesse James Miller and Universal Music Canada’s Jeffrey Remedios, Dave Harris, and Sam Sutherland. For CBC, Sally Catto is general manager, entertainment, factual; Jennifer Dettman is executive director, unscripted content; Sandra Kleinfeld is senior director, documentary; and Mike Miner is executive in charge of production, CBC Docs.

The project is the latest in a flurry of music documentaries coproduced with music labels – several of which have their own dedicated film departments – that make ample use of audio and visual content from the label vaults among other sources.
