Commercial Directions: Fountainhead enters Asian market

Fountainhead Pictures has joined forces with C.C. Films to produce a commercial for a Chinese wine cooler called Trust through Chinese agency Good Choice Film Productions. Yan Cui, a recent resident at the Canadian Film Centre, will direct the spot and Michel Bisson will be behind the camera. Gyorgy Levai will edit.

Stonehenge Filmworks’ Aaron Shuster, working with cameraman Dave Saunders, will direct a 60-second spot for the Toronto Laser Sight Centre through Tasac Limited. Levai will handle post.

Richard D’Alessio of Imported Artists is on a 10-day shoot in Los Angeles for dmb&b of Detroit and Pontiac Sunfire. Kirk Bachman is the dop and Detroit native Dennis Kutzen of Cutz will edit.

Joe Carter is the star of two spots for McDonald’s, directed and lensed by Dan Izzard of Damast Gordon and Associates. The agency is Vickers and Benson and Wendy Linton of Chameleon cut the spots. Steve Gordon was director/ dop on a one-day shoot for Molson Breweries’ Carling through fcb. Andy Attalai of Chameleon was the editor. Gordon also directed and lensed a one-day shoot for Tennis Canada’s duMaurier Ltd. Open through Taxi. Attalai made the cut.

At L.T.B. Productions, Swiss Chalet has brought director Vince Misiano and director/cameraman Steve Bruni to Toronto for a two-day shoot through Ambrose Carr Linton Kelly. Post is being handled by Chris Van Dyke of Daily Post. Misiano, working with dop Doug Koch, has also been awarded another Kellogg’s package for the Korean market through Leo Burnett, Chicago.

And director Greg Gold has again secured the corporate Sears campaign out of Prism Communications. Sean Valentini will return as dop and post will be handled by Gillian McCarthy of Third Floor Editing

There are two upcoming shoots at Dalton Films. Ron Campbell will direct and Craig Mullins will shoot one day for C.I. Mutual Funds through Gawenda and Company. Darren Jennekins at Bullseye Productions will edit. Director Randy MacDonald has two days for Harvey’s through smw. The dop and editor are to be determined.

Circle Productions’ Robert Turner directed three days for BC Ford through y&r, with Ron Williams handling camera duties. Director Wade Ferley and dop Stephen Atkinson picked up three days for Procter and Gamble through Saatchi and Saatchi Germany. A one-day shoot for Nix Shampoo through Bates usa brought together director James Weiner and dop Valentini.

At Apple Box Productions, Lorraine Ferrara is directing her first commercial pool, four National Phone Company spots, with Denis Smith on board as dop. The shoot, through BBDO Vancouver, will last three days.

Director Jeff Jones and dop Doug Koch of Radke Films shot one day in-studio for Bell Canada through Leo Burnett. For Saturn and Cossette, director James Dalthorp will shoot four days on location. Norm Odell of Flashcut will handle post.

In Montreal, producers are in a full pitch mode following the July holiday break.

At Jet Films, director Philip Kates and dop Koch teamed on a one-day national Manager jeans shoot out of Taxi, l’agence. Creation Montage did the offline edit and Supersuite handled post. Director Michel David and dop Steve Danyluk won a two-day assignment from Marche Richelieu and agency Groupaction Marketing.

Jet is also shooting the ’95/96 Metro grocers campaign out of agency bcp. u.s.-based director Robert Black will helm the action. The five-day shoot will produce seven basic spots plus a ton of donuts or inserts.

Animation director Michael Mills of Michael Mills Productions took a dry brush on cel approach for a new English/ French 30 for Evian and DDB Needham, Toronto. Mills also did a series of spots for Southlands, a Newfoundland real estate development company.

At Figaro Films, director Claude Brie and dop J.P. Trudel shot two flavor-of-the-month 30s for Restaurants McDonald’s and agency Cossette Communication-Marketing. ‘Illusionniste’ and ‘l’Homme orchestre’ were transferred and online edited at Centre de montage electronique. Metaphore did the offline while filming took place at the Moliflex/White studio.

At La Fabrique d’Images, director Jacques Fournier and dop Danyluk shot ‘Tremplin vers Atlanta,’ a French 30 for McDonald’s ’96 Summer Olympic Games cap promotion. Buzz, AstralTech and cme shared post duties. Produced for agency Cossette, the director captured some great footage of Olympic medal hopeful, diver Annie Pelletier.
