For the Record: Vancouver School of Animation licence yanked

* After losing an appeal, the Vancouver School of Animation and Multi Media is the first private post-secondary school in b.c. to have its operating licence yanked since a provincial regulator was set up in September 1992.

Patrick Floyd, executive director of b.c.’s Private Post-Secondary Education Commission, pulled the licence on July 24 when the three-year-old classical animation educator failed to prove it was able to meet its financial obligations such as rent and instructors’ salaries. School owner Julie Ferguson will again try to appeal the decision on Aug. 15.

About 40 to 60 students have been affected by the closure, and about 12 of those have been admitted to the Vancouver Film School, Ferguson’s competitor.
