Building on the success of So You Think You Can Dance, CTV has partnered with MTV U.S. and Protocol Entertainment to release a dance-themed TV movie in 2010.
Turn the Beat Around will follow the life of an up-and-coming dancer, played by season-one So You Think You Can Dance Canada competitor Romina D’Ugo, and her trials and tribulations running a dance studio in L.A. The cast includes two other So You Think You Can Dance Canada first-season competitors, and is choreographed by a judge from the show.
Production is currently underway in Toronto and Hamilton, and wraps on Sept. 10.
So You Think You Can Dance Canada, as with its American counterpart, has been one of CTV’s most successful shows over the past two years. According to BBM Nielsen Media Research, the Canadian version’s first performance episode on Aug. 25 attracted a season-high 1.4 million viewers (2+) over its two-hour timeslot of 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
