* Imax Corporation has announced a new business affairs and development department based out of Toronto and headed up by Christian Jorg, former vice-president, new technologies at BMG Entertainment in New York.
Jorg, an entertainment technologies wunderkind at bmg, is reporting to Imax president Robert Corrigan, and will be responsible for new business development and the augmentation of applications for new and existing Imax technologies. Jorg also assumes operational duties for Imax’s Ridefilm Corporation subsidiary based in South Lee, Mass.
David Sciuk and John Coady, newly appointed directors of business affairs for Imax, will report to Jorg.
* Drama and variety producer Jacques Payette has joined Productions Sovimage as a producer. A former ACCT-Quebec president, Payette’s directing credits include Les Intripides, La Misere des Riches and various Cirque du Soleil specials including Saltimbanco.
* Sue Tolusso, formerly of Nelvana, is the new director of communications at Catalyst, effective immediately. In other news at Catalyst, Ridley Scott has just completed an underwater shoot for White Squall at Charles Falzon’s facility in Malta, Mediterrean Film Studio.
* Barry McDonald is back at U.TV on Sports Page. McDonald, who will officially start on Sept. 18, will be replacing Dave Randorf.
