Cineflix Media distribution arm Cineflix Rights has unveiled its scripted slate ahead of MIPCOM, which runs from Oct. 11 to 14, including the second season of Radi0-Canada and Tou.tv-Extra series Happily Married (10 x 45 minutes; Productions Casablanca). The series, which won the Prize for Excellence in Canadian Content at the 2021 Rockie Awards, follows two middle-class couples who find themselves falling into a life of murder and crime. Other Canadian titles coming to MIPCOM are CBC’s Coroner and Syfy and CTV Sci-Fi series Wynonna Earp.
Among the international scripted titles are U.K. series Irvine Welsh’s Crime (6 x 60 minutes; Buccaneer Media), seasons one and two of Israel’s Manayek (20 x 45 minutes; Yoav Gross Productions) and French series Rebecca (8 x 60 minutes; Elephant) – a remake of the Nordic series Marcella, which Cineflix Rights is also bringing to MIPCOM. Other titles include Apple TV+ spy thriller Tehran; Russian drama An Ordinary Woman; Acorn TV’s Whitstable Pearl; European co-pro Mirage; and Icelandic political drama The Minister.
Boat Rocker
Mary Makes it Easy (pictured) is among the unscripted titles added to Boat Rocker’s slate in the lead-up to MIPCOM. Produced by Proper Television, a Boat Rocker Company), the CTV series features MasterChef Canada season three winner Mary Berg in her home as she walks viewers through recipes and cooking conundrums.
The lineup also includes APTN titles Spirit Talker (13 x 30 minutes), a docuseries with Mi’kmaq medium Shawn Leonard, and season two of Chuck and the First People’s Kitchen (13 x 30 minutes; Andicha Media), about the ancient culinary traditions of Indigenous communities; as well as season two of Discovery Science’s Secrets in the Ice (16 x 60 minutes; Shark Teeth Films).
Additional international titles include A+E Networks U.K. factual series Weeks of War (8 x 60 minutes; Wildbear) and season seven of BYUtv’s Relative Race (10 x 60 minutes; Lenzwork Productions).
CBC & Radio-Canada Distribution
CBC & Radio-Canada Distribution is introducing its new fall line up of kids content to international broadcasters as it virtually attends this year’s MIP Junior and MIPCOM 2021.
The international content licensing arm will debut several kids live-action programming at the France market: Do not enter! (26 x 20 minutes; Christal Films and Gaëa Film), a comedy based on the bestselling books Défense d’entrer!; About Sex (35 x 7 minutes; Echo Media), a series that informs and educates teenagers about positive, respectful and healthy sexuality, which was recently sold to ABC Australia; and season four of Quebec youth web-series Marika (10 x 9 minutes; Telefiction), which has been sold to Globo Brazil and TV CAT in Spain.
The division will also introduce animated programs including: a new upper preschool series about friendship and teamwork Glowbies (26 x 12.5 minutes, 7 x 12.5 minutes and 5 x 12.5 minutes; Gallus Entertainment); Gary’s Magic Fort (13 x 11 minutes; CBC Kids), which is about a boy in his enchanted pillow fort home; Moose (1 x 60 minutes and a 5 x 11-minute holiday special; Muse), a book-based holiday special about an expressive, fun-loving, and curious moose that shows up in a Canadian family’s backyard and is adopted as their pet and Amos the Mask Hunter (13 x 22 minutes; Iceworks Animation), which was acquired by NRK Norway.
