A number of national spots from tasac (Television Advertising Services Across Canada) have been keeping things busy at Stonehenge this summer. Aaron Shuster directed a two-day spot for a car-cleaning product called Grime Eater. Lensed by Kim Stephenson, the spot will be tied to a Canadian Tire campaign targeted at the female market. Shuster and Stephenson also shot a spot for dgs-ecco, and Shuster teamed with dop Dave Saunders on a one-day shoot for Chrysler.
TOPIX Computer Graphics and Animation and Mad Dog Digital are working on a new spot in the White Castle ‘What You Crave’ campaign through J. Walter Thompson, Detroit. Working with Backyard Productions, Chicago, topix directors Harrold Harris and Mike Halley and Mad Dog artists James Cooper and Brynley Cadman came up with some wacky effects to create facial features with a life of their own.
Radke’s Jeff Jones picked up two days for Raisin Bran through Leo Burnett. Doug Koch was the dop and Brant Lambermont of Partners’ Post edited. Koch also lensed two days with director Robert Black for St. Elizabeth’s Health Reform. The agency was Lewis Advertising of Alabama and editing again was by Lambermont.
At Circle Productions, director Fred Frame teamed up with dop Ron Williams on a three-day shoot for Shell in Vancouver. The agency was Ogilvy and Mather West. Frame shot another day for the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Canada and Cossette, with John Houtman on camera.
Nick Taylor lensed five days with director Robert Turner for Zellers through Zellers Direct. Turner worked with Williams on two shoots – a day for Bell Call Display through Leo Burnett and a day in Vancouver for Pantry through Dome Advertising.
At Avion Films, Martin Granger directed a day with dop Stanley Mestel for Pizza Hut and bbdo and a day with dop Simon Mestel for Bounce through dmb&b. Ray Dillman and Simon Mestel shot a day for Fog Maxwell and Lanier through Janzen of Fresno, Calif.
Director David McNally and dop Nixon Binny of The Players Film Company picked up seven days out of Grey Turkey – four for Blendex and three for Pantene.
The Artists Company’s Gillean Proctor picked up five studio days for Brawn through Lowe sms. David Norman was behind the camera and Norm O’Dell of Flashcut handled the edit.
Spark plugs and pasta have been on the slate at Richmond Hill’s Big Star Motion Pictures. A Champion Spark Plugs spot was directed by Giacomo Moncada, lensed by Adam Swica and posted by Peter McAuley at Daily Post. Moncada and Swica also shot a fourth spot for Italpasta, which was posted at Magnetic South.
Boris Damast of Damast Gordon directed a one-day shoot for Fox Broadcasting, with Brian Hokum the dop. The resulting seven promos were edited by Ron Scalera at Fox.
In Montreal, La Fabrique d’Images reports director Kari Skogland and dop Pierre Gill shot two French/English 30s for Zellers corporate campaign at various locations, including the authentic ’50s-style Galaxy Diner. Groupe Image Buzz, Supersuite, for the transfer, and AstralTech for the lab, shared post duties on the three-day shoot.
Raymond Bark directed and James Gardner was the dop on two new English-track spots for La Fabrique producer Christiane Hamelin, client Banque Royale and agency DDB Needham Worldwide. The two-day shoot took place at the Mont-Megantic Observatory and was posted in Toronto at Command Post and Manta Sound.
Cinelande reports production on eight English/French 30s for Patrimoine Canada/Heritage Canada out of agency bcp. The spots were directed by Erik Canuel and shot by Pierre Gill on location in Montreal and the easterly Iles Mingan.
Jean-Marc Piche and Gill were the team on two French 30s for Notre Vin Maison, the saq house label, out of PNMD/Publitel. New director Frederic D’Amours and dop Bruce Chun shot ‘Les Jumelles,’ three 30s over three days in-studio at Cinelande. Jean Becotte art directed. The client is drug store chain Uniprix and the agency is Diesel.
At Figaro Films, director Cosimo Cavallaro and dop Guy Dufaux shot three French 30s for Caisse Populaire Desjardins and bcp. Kids flying a kite are part of the action filmed at scenic Mount Oxford. The pool was transferred and onlined at Centre de montage electronique and offlined at Montage Metaphor. Claude Brie directed and J.P. Trudel lit the action for a new Opera de Montreal subscription spot, also out of bcp.
