• The City of Toronto and Astral Media’s The Movie Network Award for best Canadian feature is presented annually to a Canadian filmmaker and includes a cash prize of $30,000. It is jointly sponsored by TMN and the City of Toronto. Rodrigue Jean won the award last year for his film Lost Song.
• The SKYY Vodka Award for best Canadian first feature recognizes first-time filmmakers who have presented an exemplary debut film. The cash prize is $15,000 and was presented last year to Marie-Hélène Cousineau and Madeline Piujuq Ivalu for their film Before Tomorrow. The award was launched in 1997, with Vincenzo Natali winning for Cube.
• A $10,000 cash prize accompanies the Award for Best Canadian Short Film and is supported by the National Film Board. Last year Chris Chong Chang walked away with the prize for his short, Block B.
Two official juries
• The jury for the feature film awards consists of filmmaker Jerry Ciccoritti, Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival director of programming Sean Farnel, Canadian novelist Kerri Sakamoto, and filmmaker Peter Lynch.
• For the short film category, the jurors are Shane Smith, Sundance programmer and executive producer of in-flight entertainment at Spafax, as well as filmmakers Ingrid Veninger and Shane Belcourt.
