Canadian Screen Award-winning actor Michael Greyeyes has signed a first-look deal with L.A.-based Blumhouse Productions to develop potential film projects.

Greyeyes, who is Plains Cree from the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation in Saskatchewan, is among the cast of the upcoming Blumhouse feature film Firestarter. The film, which was shot in Toronto and Hamilton, ON from May to July, is an adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same name, which was also adapted for the screen in 1984.

Blumhouse is best known for its horror films, including the Oscar-winning film Get Out and the Insidious and The Purge franchises. The prodco has also produced award-winning dramas such as Whiplash and BlacKkKlansman.

Greyeyes has appeared on screens since the early ’90s and won the Canadian Screen Award for Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role this year for his work in Jeff Barnaby’s zombie horror film Blood Quantum (Prospector Films).

His recent TV work includes Peacock original series Rutherford Falls, Apple TV+’s Home Before Dark, Netflix’s V-Wars and HBO’s True Detective. Recent films include TIFF ’21 selection Wildhood, directed by Mi’kmaq filmmaker Bretten Hannam, and the Lyle Mitchell Corbine, Jr.-directed thriller Wild Indian, which had its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Greyeyes is repped by TalentWorks, The Artist Representation Company and Mills Kaplan Entertainment.
