Numbers: The Magic Hour

CBC’s This Hour Has 22 Minutes is taking a respectable share of all 30 of them in the 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. slot Monday nights.

Up against ctv mainstay Murphy Brown and one of CanWest Global Communications’ new series, Partners, This Hour clocked 951,000 viewers 2+ on Nov. 13, according to Nielsen People Metre overnights.

Numbers have been climbing this season since the program moved to the top of the hour from last year’s 9:30 p.m. start, following lead-ins by Kids In The Hall for the first four months and Skate, a cbc variety program, for the latter half of the season.

Last season’s finale closed with 801,000 viewers 2+ on March 27, opening again Oct. 16 with 1,061,000 viewers. Nielsen Television Index Top 20 CBC/CTV Network Programs ranked This Hour 14th the week of Oct. 23-29 with 1,092,000 viewers, increased to 1,193,000 viewers the week of Nov. 6-12, and dipping to 951,000 Nov. 13.

Murphy Brown continues to take the slot, ranking consistently in the top 5.

cbc’s Liberty Street, slotted behind This Hour this season, will be moved to Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 22.
