At Press Time

Vancouver: The B.C. & Yukon Council of Film Unions was expected to conclude its collective bargaining negotiations with American and Canadian producers on Feb. 23. At press time, negotiations continued unabated though there are three appeals to the lrb’s decision under Section 41 of the Labour Code.

One is by member camera union IATSE 669, on an aspect of the decision that leaves it vulnerable to future problems. 669 supports the Council.

There are also appeals by excluded unions actra-bc and cep (representing former nabet workers). actra-bc says granting exclusive jurisdiction to a council of trade unions, ‘is contrary to the principles expressed or implied in the Code, as a patently unreasonable error of law.’

Tim Hiltz, manager of business affairs for the Council, expects the negotiations will conclude and the agreements will be presented for ratification.
