Cameras are rolling in Calgary, AB on the 225th episode of Heartland, which will serve as the first episode of its 15th season.
Filming started earlier this week, with the new season set to premiere on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. on CBC and CBC Gem.
The family drama, distributed internationally by eOne, will shoot across various Alberta locations for its 15th season, including Calgary, High River, Millarville and Longview.
Heartland has been a reliable ratings driver for CBC for more than a decade, and, more recently, has started to pull in audiences south of the border, where it is carried by Netflix, Hulu and UPtv Faith & Family.
The show has regularly appeared in the weekly Nielsen streaming chart. For the week of May 10 to 16, the most recent data available, Heartland was the seventh most-streamed acquired series, with 341 million minutes streamed. For context, that’s one spot below Schitt’s Creek (352 million minutes streamed). The No. 1 acquired series for the week of May 10 to 16 was Startup (760 million minutes streamed) followed by Grey’s Anatomy (691 million). (All numbers provided by Nielsen.)
Based on the bestselling book series from Lauren Brooke, the hour-long series is produced by Dynamo Films and SEVEN24 Films and executive produced by Michael Weinberg, Tom Cox, Jordy Randall, and Heather Conkie, who also serves as showrunner. Series writers are Conkie, Mark Haroun, Ken Craw and Alexandra Clarke. Dean Bennett is the producer.
