One of Canada’s leading factual TV creatives has found a new home.
McGillivray Entertainment Media (MEM) has recruited Mike Bickerton as its new executive producer, joining the company to support showrunners, series producers and help map the creative strategy for the company.
Bickerton will also focus on the expansion of the business into new genres.
A 20-year veteran, Bickerton earned his reputation on a number of award-winning shows, working as a showrunner, producer and director on projects ranging from Canada’s Drag Race and Canadian Idol to So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Amazing Race Canada and the acclaimed Netflix series Blown Away.
His Canadian Screen Award victories include Best Reality/Competition Series and Best Writing for Canada’s Drag Race at the 2021 ceremony.
In making the announcement, MEM president Angela Jennings lauded Bickerton’s “much-admired leadership ability, as well as his breadth of knowledge and experience with reality/competition series is an incredible asset to us as we focus on the company’s expansion.”
Bickerton is the second notable hire in the last month, as the Scott McGillivray-fronted prodco recently added award-winning unscripted producer Kelly Wray (Scott’s Vacation House Rules, Save Our Shelter, Backyard Builds) to oversee the company’s lifestyle titles.
The company also promoted MEM ex-SVP, production Angela Jennings to president as well as former MEM line producer Jeff Baker (Buyers Bootcamp, Scott’s Vacation House) to head of production.
